Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz 36mm - Ref. 17013
Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz 36mm - Ref. 17013
For sale is a Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz 36mm Ref. 17013 in Stainless Steel & Yellow Gold with a Champagne Baton Dial.
The Rolex Oysterquartz, now discontinued, is a distinctive model within the Rolex lineup, combining the brand's traditional craftsmanship with the cutting-edge quartz technology of its time.
The Rolex Oysterquartz was introduced in the late 1970s and remained in production until the early 2000s. The Oysterquartz line was Rolex's response to the growing popularity of quartz watches during the 1970s, a period often referred to as the "Quartz Crisis" in the watch industry.
The Oysterquartz 17013 features a 36mm case, which is the standard size for Rolex Datejust models. However, the case design is angular and more modern compared to the rounded cases of traditional Datejusts.
The Case & Bracelet are crafted in Stainless Steel & Yellow Gold. The bezel, crown, and center links of the ‘Jubilee’ bracelet are made of yellow gold, while the rest of the case and the outer links of the bracelet are made of stainless steel. This combination gives the watch a luxurious yet versatile appearance.
One of the most distinctive features of the Oysterquartz models, including the 17013, is the integrated bracelet design. The bracelet seamlessly blends into the case, creating a unified and contemporary look. This design is quite different from the traditional Rolex Oyster or Jubilee bracelets, giving the Oysterquartz its own unique identity.
The 17013 is powered by the Rolex Caliber 5035, one of the brand’s few quartz movements. Despite being a quartz watch, the Caliber 5035 was finished to the same high standards as Rolex’s mechanical movements, with a Swiss lever escapement and a traditional balance wheel, making it unique in the realm of quartz timepieces.
The Oysterquartz line was produced in much smaller numbers and as a consequence has become a collector's item. Enthusiasts appreciate it not only for its distinctive design but also for its place in Rolex's history as one of the few quartz watches the brand ever produced.
This example is in great condition with some minor pitting on the bracelet - see pictures for more details on the condition.
