For sale is a Vintage Omega Speedmaster Ref. 145.022-69 ‘Straight Writing’ from 1969, the year of the moon landing.

The 145.022 reference was introduced in the late 1960s and became part of Omega's Speedmaster lineup in 1968. It’s particularly renowned for being the version that was worn by NASA astronauts during the Apollo missions, including the historic Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. This consequently led to the watch being formally known as the ‘moonwatch’, a historical feat that would forever cement Omegas contribution to horology.

The 145.022 became the official chronograph of NASA after rigorous testing, proving its durability and precision in space conditions.

Straight Writing: A standout characteristic of this model is the rare 'straight case writing' found on the case back. Furthermore, this reference is the first to feature an inscription commemorating the moon landing on the case back. The previous owner had their initials ‘MG’ engraved on the caseback which adds a touch of character to the watch.

The Dial: The black dial is in good condition for its age and the lume hour markers have developed a beautiful pumpkin patina adding to its vintage charm.

Bezel: As is typical for all Speedmaster professionals, the 145.022 features a black tachymeter bezel, allowing the user to measure speed over a known distance. The bezel shows moderate signs of wear commensurate with its age.

Bracelet: The watch comes fitted with Omega’s iconic "Bracelet 1039" with “47” End-links.

Movement: The Speedmaster 145.022 is powered by the Omega Caliber 861, a manual-winding chronograph movement. It was an evolution of the previous Caliber 321, offering improved reliability and ease of servicing.

Collectors and enthusiasts often seek out the 145.022 because it represents a blend of Omega's craftsmanship, space history, and the timeless Speedmaster design. The combination of its historical significance, robust construction, and classic aesthetics has made it a favorite among watch collectors and is a highly regarded piece in the vintage watch community today.
